Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) è un adolescente dislessico, affetto da una sindrome da deficit di attenzione, che sta per essere espulso da scuola. Quando scopre di essere il figlio del dio greco Poseidone (Kevin McKidd), si trasferisce insieme alle divinità dell'Olimpo in cima all'Empire State Building, il grattacielo più famoso di New York. Per giunta Zeus accusa Percy di avergli sottratto il suo famoso fulmine. Per dimostrare la sua innocenza, Percy cercherà il fulmine in ogni parte del globo, con la collaborazione dei suoi due amici Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario) e Grover (Brandon T. Jackson).
