L'incontro con il mondo del cinema non è tutto rose e fiori, ma poi si apre una carriera straordinaria per successo e qualità artistica. Insieme, però, ci sono anche le disavventure sentimentali e coniugali, più altre cocenti delusioni. Infine, Chaplin decide di ritirarsi in Svizzera, confortato da Oona O'Neil.
