L'ispettore Jacques Clouseau deve fronteggiare una serie di furti clamorosi di oggetti di inestimabile valore, tra i quali quello del diamante Pantera Rosa. L'ispettore Dreyfus si trova così costretto ad assegnare a Clouseau un team internazionale di esperti e di detective incaricati di catturare il ladro e recuperare la preziosissima refurtiva, dando il via a una serie di rocambolesche avventure tra Parigi e Roma.
