In seguito a un incidente stradale, un uomo, privo di documenti, viene ricoverato in gravi condizioni. Mentre si trova in ospedale in stato di incoscienza, qualcuno tenta di ucciderlo. Si scopre allora che lo sconosciuto è un certo Hugo Sartet, pregiudicato, e forse implicato nell'omicidio di un imprenditore. Nel frattempo Samuel Pierret, allievo infermiere nel reparto in cui si trova Sartet, è vittima di un terribile ricatto: la sua giovane moglie, in attesa del loro primo figlio, viene rapita da due malviventi, che minacciano di ucciderla se Samuel non soddisferà la loro criminale richiesta.
