Dopo quindici anni di assenza Silvestro torna in Sicilia per cercare una realtà più pura da quella in cui vive. Nel corso di questo viaggio Silvestro incontra diverse persone: "Il Gran Lombardo", un uomo alla ricerca di nuovi compiti che sia possibile concepire come nuovi valori, Ezechiele e Calogero l'arrotino che ripetono di soffrire non per se stessi ma per il dolore del mondo offeso.
