Dopo aver salvato la vita ad alcuni astronauti sovietici, Superman torna sulla Terra e decide di distruggere tutte le armi nucleari esistenti sul pianeta. Ma Lex Luthor è in agguato: prende un capello di Superman e, a partire da quello, riesce a riprodurre un altro supereroe, l'Uomo Nucleare, con le stesse caratteristiche dell'originale, ma totalmente votato al Male.
