L'ispettore Mattei (Daniel Auteuil) è sulle tracce dei componenti di una banda di rapinatori, divenuti tristemente celebri per la violenza con cui mettono a segno i loro colpi e per essere aiutati da un misterioso cecchino. Vincent (Mathieu Kassovitz), il leader della banda nonché il cecchino, viene arrestato dalla polizia in seguito a una segnalazione anonima. Riesce però a fuggire dal carcere e da quel momento non si darà pace fino a quando non scoprirà l'identità del compagno che lo ha tradito.
