In una tranquilla località turistica balneare, Tina, l'amico Steven e l'ex fidanzato Josh rimangono bloccati all'interno di un supermercato da due uomini armati che tentano una rapina quando un improvviso tsunami coglie tutti di sorpresa. Intrappolati con i pochi sopravvissuti tra le pareti della struttura, in balia del livello dell'acqua che continua a salire, dovranno guardarsi le spalle da un nuovo nemico che si concretizza sotto forma di un gigantesco e affamato squalo bianco, portato fin lì dalla marea. Nel vicino parcheggio, le cose non vanno diversamente e tre persone si ritrovano a lottare con un altrettanto famelico squalo, capace di percepire a distanza la loro paura.
