I giganteschi "vermoni" che nel primo episodio della serie mettevano a soqquadro il deserto del Nevada, si stanno scavando una nuova serie di cunicoli attraverso i campi petroliferi del Messico, devastando impianti e inghiottendo uomini e cose. Sulle loro tracce si mettono in tre impavidi cacciatori: il duro Earl Bassell (Ward), un giovane desideroso di cambiar vita (Garlin) e un'intrepida scienziata (Shaver). Sequel molto di maniera, che accentua gli ingredienti più fracassoni e gli attori di rincalzo.
