Elwood Blues esce di galera e scopre che molte cose sono cambiate: suo fratello Jake è morto, la band si è sciolta e l'orfanotrofio dove è cresciuto è stato distrutto. Persino Curtis, il custode dell'istituto che era stato un padre per loro, è passato a miglior vita. Gli rimane soltanto una sorta di fratellastro, Cabel, figlio naturale di Curtis.
