In un campeggio estivo due ragazze scoprono di essere gemelle, separate in culla dalla aberrante ed egoistica decisione dei genitori di lasciarsi e di dividersi le bimbe. Le due ragazze decidono di scambiarsi i ruoli per conoscere il genitore che non hanno mai avuto e progettare il loro ricongiungimento. Frenetiche telefonate si inseguono tra Londra e la California e l'inaspettato prossimo matrimonio del padre sembra compromettere il piano, ma le due gemelle hanno molte frecce al loro arco.
