Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) ha sempre invidiato all’amico Daves (Jason Bateman) la spensieratezza e l’esistenza sgombra da ogni responsabilità e vincolo matrimoniale; Daves invece vorrebbe avere la brillante carriera da avvocato di Mitch e vivere armoniosamente con una famiglia propria. Complici una sbronza in un bar e un fulmine improvviso, i desideri dei due amici d’infanzia vengono esauditi e si risvegliano l’uno nel corpo dell’altro: Mitch si ritrova a gestire le mille conquiste e il padre separato (Alan Arkin) di Daves, a questi invece tocca accudire i tre figli dell’amico, vivere imbrigliato dalla moglie e resistere alle tentazioni di una procace segretaria. Incapaci di gestire i cambiamenti, i due uomini devono trovare un rimedio prima di rovinare le rispettive esistenze.
