A Genova, durante una rapina in un ufficio postale, tre banditi prendono in ostaggio uno dei clienti, l'ingegner Carlo Antonelli. Pestato a sangue e abbandonato in un'auto, Antonelli vuole vendicarsi ma, quando capisce che la polizia non lo aiuterà più di tanto, decide di mettersi alla ricerca dei banditi e di farsi giustizia da sé. A questo scopo ricatta un giovane balordo che poi passa dalla sua parte.
