Dopo la tragica morte del padre in un incidente stradale, il giovane Kale Brecht subisce un fortissimo contraccolpo psicologico e aggredisce un insegnante. Condannato agli arresti domiciliari, mentre la madre Julie lavora giorno e notte per sbarcare il lunario, Kale - oltre a ricevere le visite di Ashley, la vicina - non trova di meglio da fare che spiare i movimenti dei vicini: in particolare si concentra uno di loro, il misterioso signor Turner, e poco a poco inizia a sospettare che possa trattarsi di un serial killer.
