Il "Wayne's World" è una pazza trasmissione televisiva per teenagers ideata, condotta e trasmessa artigianalmente dallo scantinato della loro casa, da due amici, Wayne e Garth. Un dirigente di una grossa compagnia televisiva, fiutando il colpo grosso, li scrittura ma i due, accortisi che il loro show è stato snaturato a fini pubblicitari, lo mandano in tilt in diretta, ottenendo comunque uno strepitoso successo oltre al quale arriverà per i due amici anche l'amore. Ispirato a un programma di grande successo in onda negli Stati Uniti, il film è una satira al vetriolo del mondo televisivo, condita con la sana follia del Saturday Night Live.
