In un superstizioso paesino lucano tre bimbi vengono crudelmente uccisi. Un giornalista in vacanza indaga con i carabinieri. I sospetti cadono su una dissoluta signora di città venuta a disintossicarsi, poi su una fattucchiera. Entrambe risultano innocenti, ma la seconda, una volta rilasciata, viene massacrata dai genitori delle piccole vittime. La situazione diventa più cupa quando è assassinato un quarto bambino.
