Un uomo con la macchina da presa digitale si aggira per Manhattan. È un ceco che ama il cinema di Frank Capra e che è in cerca di fortuna con il suo psicopatico compagno russo. I due sono in "viaggio d'affari" ma sono irretiti dal miraggio di un successo rapido e senza fatica e lasciano in una New York notturna e segnata da volute di fumo, una scia ben visibile di incendi e di cadaveri. Con la videocamera filmano le loro "imprese" e le spediscono a "Top Story", un reality show perché le mandi in onda. Sulle loro tracce si lanciano il pluridecorato ispettore Eddie Flemming e il giovane investigatore Jordy Warsaw. Le strade dei criminali e dei poliziotti si incrociano in un incessante rondò il cui centro di gravità è l'affascinante Daphne che era presente sul set del primo omicidio e perciò scomodo testimone da eliminare e/o proteggere.
