In una cittadina americana, durante i festeggiamenti di San Valentino, alcuni operai rimangono intrappolati nella miniera a causa della distrazione di due supervisori ansioni di andare alla festa. L'unico sopravvissuto, Harry Walder, viene ritrovato diversi giorni dopo e, ormai in preda alla pazzia, viene rinchiuso in una clinica psichiatrica. L'uomo però riesce a fuggire e impone alla sua città, con degli omicidi di avvertimento, di non festeggiare più San Valentino. Vent'anni dopo, pensando che il pericolo sia sparito viene nuovamente organizzata la festa. Tutti i ragazzi della città sono euforici per l'avvenimento ma non sanno che stanno andando incontro alla furia omicida dell'uomo.
