Carla Moran vive a Los Angeles col figlio Billy. Una notte subisce un attacco da parte di un'entità sconosciuta. Le notti successive gli assalti si ripetono e coinvolgono anche il figlio. Pesta, contusa e violentata, Carla si rivolge prima a un neurologo, poi a un gruppo di parapsicologi che riusciranno a costringere l'entità misteriosa a manifestarsi. Ma la storia non finisce così.
